The Destination

Setting up your Fortune Hunt Destination system is easy! To set it up, just follow the simple steps below.

Before you get started:

Your Fortune Hunt destination system should come with the following 5 objects. When you unpack your crate in your inventory, you should have these objects in a folder:

  1. Destination HUD
  2. Anchor
  3. Server
  4. Profile Manager
  5. Hidden Object

To set up a new Fortune Hunt Destination, you must own land in Second Life. This means owning a region, or a parcel on the mainland. If you are in a group that owns land, and you want to set up a destination on land owned by that group, you must have the ability to deed objects to that group, because you will need to deed your Fortune Hunt Anchor to the group before you can register your destination. With each destination system, can set up hunts on as many parcels as you own, but you only get one online profile. If you have more than one parcel that you want to be listed on separate online profiles on this website, then you must purchase more than one destination system. So, each destination system you buy comes with one online profile, but each profile can list an unlimited number of different hunts on different parcels.

Quick Start Guide:

Wear your Destination HUD.
This will register your Fortune Hunt account. To set up your Fortune Hunt web account for thefortunehunt.com, just click on your HUD and select Web Account, then Register. If you don't already have a web account, you will be given a temporary password that you can use to log in. You can change or reset your password using your HUD. For more information on the uses of your Destination HUD, see the Destination HUD section, below.
Set up your Anchor
Make sure you are on the parcel where you want to set up your Destination, and rez your Anchor on the ground. It looks like a wooden sign. The Anchor is the object that links your parcel to the Fortune Hunt system, and when Fortune Hunters teleport to your Destination, they will arrive where you place this anchor. Your anchor must remain rezzed, and you should have only one per parcel. If you're on group-owned land, you will have to deed the anchor to your group before you can register it. You can set up multiple parcels per system by rezzing an anchor on each parcel you want to Register as a Fortune Hunt Destination. For more information on your Anchor, see the Anchor section, below.
Set up your Destination Server
Rez your Destination Server (it looks like a treasure chest). To register it, click on it, and select 'Register'. Your server is where you will place all objects, landmarks, and textures that will be used by your destination system. If you already have treasures that you know you want to distribute using the system, or textures that you want to use as your local map, you can go ahead and place them in the server now. For more information on your Server, see the Server section, below.
Set up your hidden objects.
The default Fortune Hunt Hidden Object looks like a little wooden box with the Fortune Hunt Flag carved into it. You can use this as your hidden object, or you can make your own hidden object. Just take the script out of the default hidden object, and drop it into the hidden object you want to use instead. Your hidden object can be an envelope, a key, or anything you want! To set up your first hidden object, rez it in the place you want it to be hidden, click on it to get the menu, then follow the setup instructions. For details on Hidden Object options, see the Hidden Object section, below.
Set up your online profile.
Rez your profile manager. It looks like a message in a bottle. When you rez it, it will set up your Fortune Hunt Destination profile on thefortunehunt.com. You get one profile for each Fortune Hunt Destination system you own. If you only have one destination system, all of the destinations you set up will be linked to that profile. If you have more than one Destination System, and set up multiple profiles, you can choose which destinations are linked to which profiles. For more information, see the section on Destination Profiles, below.

  2. Manage Token allocations for your various destinations. You have the ability to distribute Fortune Hunt Tokens when others find your hidden objects. Anchor

Your destination anchor is the item that registers your parcel as a Fortune Hunt Destination. You can use it to do the following:

  1. Activate or deactivate your destination.
  2. Change the name of your destination. By default, it will be the name of your parcel, but this can be anything you want. This name is limited to 25 characters and can only contain letters, numbers and spaces.
  3. Add or remove managers to your destination. Managers have the ability to change the setup of your hidden items. For more information on manager abilities for hidden objects, see Hidden Objects, below.
  4. If you have more than one destination profile on thefortunehunt.com, you can associate your destination with a profile or change the profile its currently linked to.
  5. Select your final item: this is an item that's delivered to treasure hunters after they find your last hidden object. You can make this item a landmark in order to make a multi-parcel sequential hunt. You can coordinate with other merchants and locations to make large, sequenced hunts!
  6. Select your map texture. If you have a texture in your Destination server, you can set it as the texture that appears on the Adventure or Starter Map HUD when visitors load your local map using their HUD. To do this, they need to press the 'New Map' button beneath their HUD, and select "LOCAL".

Server

Your server allows you to manage three kinds of objects: the objects that are delivered to treasure hunters when they find certain hidden objects that you configure, your final item that is delivered when they find the last object, and the texture that you want to show up on the HUDs of visitors. To register your server, make sure it is rezzed somewhere on the parcel where you want to set up your hidden object hunt, then touch it, and select 'Register' on the menu. Then, you can drag your items from your inventory into the contents of the server. After you do this, make sure you click on the server and select 'update' to synchronize the server inventory with the system. You can have more than one server if you want. You can also turn your server on or off at any time. While off, your server will not deliver items.

Hidden Objects

Your destination system comes with a default Fortune Hunt Hidden Object. You can use this prim as your Hidden Object, or you can modify it, or make your own. Your hidden object could be anything, an envelope, a key, a leaf on a tree, anything! To use your own build for a hidden object, just remove the script from the default hidden object, and drop it into your own object. Then click on it and select 'Setup' to set up your object.

There is a maximum of 25 registered hidden objects per parcel on your hunt. Hidden Objects must be found in the order that you define. So, when a new treasure hunter comes to your land and loads their local map by going to their new map button and selecting 'LOCAL', they will be given the clue for the object you've defined as the first hidden object. Even if treasure hunters find a hidden object in the wrong order, they will not be able to get the prize from it until they have found the ones that come before it first.

The setup sequence will take you through the following steps:

  1. Choose your clue. You might want to move your hidden object into place before you run setup on it. In order to register a hidden object, it must have a clue. Follow the instructions in the dialog box to set your clue, and then press 'Done'. Your clue must be 150 characters or less. You can always change this clue later if you want.
  2. Once you have successfully set your clue, you will be asked to set the hidden object type. Hidden objects can be configured one of three ways:
    1. Tokens: Token objects distribute Fortune Hunt tokens to those who find the hidden object. If you choose token object, you must have tokens allocated to your destination. You can allocate tokens using your Destination HUD. You can also set the total limit for the number of tokens each object should give out, and you can set the limit for the number of tokens that should be given out at a time. When setting up your object, the dialog boxes will guide you through this process.
    2. Treasure: Treasure objects deliver treasures from your Fortune Hunt server. Just select the name of the item you want to be delivered to your visitors when they find your hidden object.
    3. Decoy: Decoy objects don't deliver anything to the people who find them, they just give them the clue for the next hidden object in the sequence. You can string many hidden objects together to send your visitors on a wild goose chase before they get to the loot!
  3. After choosing the hidden object type, you can select the order in which your hidden object should appear. You can reorder your hidden objects at any time.

Destination Profiles

Each destination system you buy comes with one online profile on thefortunehunt.com. To register this profile, just rez your profile manager, it looks like a message in a bottle. Once you have rezzed this item and registered your web account on thefortunehunt.com, you will be able to edit your destination's online profile. For instructions on setting up your web account, see the section on the Destination HUD above.

Tips

  • Using your Anchor, you can define two special objects in your server: the map texture and the final item.
    • The final item is an item that will be delivered to hunters after they find the last hidden object on your destination. This item can be an object or a landmark. You can make this item a landmark if you want to string multiple parcels together into a single hunt, just send them the landmark for the next place you want them to go.
    • The map texture is the texture that will show up on the map on treasure hunter's HUDs when they visit your local destination and select 'LOCAL' on their maps menu to load their local map.
  • Please: do not make your hidden objects impossible to reach. The whole idea behind the Destination system is to bring visitors to your shop or location and give them something fun to do. If the objects are too difficult or impossible to find, your visitors will not have such a great time, and may leave with a negative feeling about your location. Strive to make your hunt not as difficult as possible, but challenging and fun!
